PROVENT SLEEP APNEA THERAPY
How does Provent Therapy treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA?) Provent Therapy adhesive devices attach over the nostrils. During inhalation, the patented Microvalve opens, allowing the user to breathe in freely. When exhaling, the valve closes and air passing through the nose is directed through two small air channels. This increases the pressure in the airway and helps to keep it open.
Is Provent easy to use? Provent Therapy is a simple, single-use device that fits over your nostrils. However, it may take some time to get used to wearing Provent. Patients generally acclimate in three to seven nights but it could take up to three weeks. Remember to exhale through your mouth while wearing the device (your body will automatically revert to nasal breathing once you fall asleep and Provent can begin to work.) Many patients find it helpful to keep a glass of water next to their bedside to prevent dry mouth. If you're unable to fall asleep one night, simply remove and discard the Provent Therapy and try again the next night.
Will Provent Therapy work for me? Provent Therapy does not work for everyone. In recent clinical studies, 72% of obstructive sleep apnea sufferers were successfully treated by Provent Therapy.
Do I need a prescription for Provent Therapy? Yes, Provent Therapy is a prescription-only product. Ask your physician if it's right for you.
Is Provent covered by my insurance? As a fairly new treatment option in Canada, Provent is not yet covered by most health insurance plans. Some plans include flexible coverage which may fully or partially cover the cost of Provent. Please speak directly to your insurance provider regarding Provent.
Can Provent Therapy replace my CPAP machine? If you are not using your CPAP machine all night, every night, ask your physician about non-CPAP alternatives including Provent Therapy. Only you and your physician can decide what therapy is best for you.
Can I use this device with my CPAP? Provent Therapy cannot be used together with a CPAP machine, but some users find that it's more convenient to use Provent when traveling and CPAP when at home.
How is Provent Therapy different from CPAP therapy? Constant Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) increases the pressure on both inhalation and exhalation. Provent Therapy increases the pressure on exhalation only, creating Expiratory Postive Airway Pressure (EPAP.) CPAP increases pressure in the airway using forced air, while Provent Therapy uses the patient's own breathing to create pressure during exhalation.
Can I travel with Provent? Because of its small, simple design, traveling is easy with Provent Therapy. Each night's set is individually pouched. There is no need for electricity or equipment and the device is discarded after single-use.
Does Provent Therapy stop snoring? Clinical studies have shown that 83% of OSA patients experienced a snoring reduction with Provent Therapy. However, if you do not have OSA and simply wish to stop snoring, Theravent is a less expensive treatment option that is available through ioSleep and our resellers without a prescription.
Is Provent Therapy safe? Yes, Provent Therapy can be used safely. In recent clinical studies, no severe, device-related adverse events were reported.
Can Provent Therapy be used by children or pregnant women? The safety and effectiveness of Provent Therapy in pregnant women and those under the age of 18 has not been established. Please speak to your doctor if you are a minor and/or pregnant and suffering from OSA.
THERAVENT ADVANCED NIGHTLY SNORE THERAPY
What is Theravent? Theravent Advanced Nightly Snore Therapy is a clinically proven snoring therapy, used nightly, that can give you the quiet sleep you've been waiting for.
Is Theravent effective for snoring associated with OSA? Theravent is not intended to treat sleep apnea. Please see your doctor if you think you may have sleep apnea. Theravent, Inc., the maker of Theravent, also offers Provent Sleep Apnea Therapy, which is indicated to treat obstructive sleep apnea.
How is Theravent different from nasal strips like Breathe Right? Nasal strips are placed on top of your nose and help dilate your nostrils, reducing congestion. Theravent uses the power of your own breathing to create pressure that opens and supports your nasal airways. Theravent works by creating Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure (EPAP) in your airway. This is the pressure you feel when exhaling.
How long does Theravent take to get used to? Give yourself at least a week to get used to the feeling of Theravent. Some people may get used to the therapy in one night; for others it may take up to a week. Beginning your therapy with the Theravent Starter Pack is a great way to gradually build up to REGULAR or MAX resistance.
When should I put on Theravent? You should apply Theravent just before going to sleep.
Can I use a Theravent device for more than one night? No, each Theravent is a single-use device.
How do I apply Theravent?
- REMOVE: Peel paper backing to expose the adhesive.
- ALIGN: Using a mirror, center the device so that both nostrils are completely covered by the mesh area.
- APPLY: Place the device so that it completely covers both nostrils. Gently press the adhesive down against your nose to create a seal between the device and your nostrils.
- CHECK THE SEAL: Make sure the device is sealed around your nose with no wrinkles or gaps, since these can create air leaks. Air leaks reduce the effectiveness of the device.
Tips for Applying Theravent
- If you are having trouble breathing in, remove the device and reapply.
- You should feel resistance when you breathe out through your nose with your mouth closed. This means the device is applied properly. You can check the device by plugging the center hole in the device with your finger and gently breathing out. If the device is sealed, you should not feel air escaping around the adhesive. If you have an air leak around the adhesive, gently press down around the adhesive. Once you have a proper seal, breathe in and out through your mouth until you fall asleep. You should naturally switch to nasal breathing and your snoring should be treated. If a leak persists, remove device and reapply.
- Make sure the area around your nostrils is clean, dry, and free of lotion.
- Use a mirror to apply the device.
- Users may require several nights to feel comfortable when wearing the device.
- After use, remove the device by gently peeling the adhesive off each nostril. For sensitive skin, remove the device with warm water or while in the shower.
Can Theravent Therapy be used by children or pregnant women? The safety and effectiveness of Theravent for pregnant women and those under the age of 18 has not been established. Please speak to your doctor if you are a minor and/or pregnant and wish to use Theravent Advance Nightly Snore Therapy.
